The Missing link?: Scientists unveil lemur-like fossil at New York’s American Museum of Natural History

Aunt Ida Say hello to "Aunt Ida"- you’ll find her 47million years back on your family tree.

The lemur-like fossil, thought to be a missing link between today’s primates and distant relatives, is on show at New York’s American Museum of Natural History after being launched amid great fanfare by the city’s mayor.

The skeleton is so good that it still has an outline of fur and there are traces of its last meal.

The female animal lived during the Eocene Period, when early primates developed.

Silverton transgender mayor in reality show?

Stu Rasmussen SILVERTON, Ore. - Silverton’s controversial mayor may be at the center of a new reality show.

On Tuesday, crews were filming five-minute ‘teasers’ with Mayor Stu Rasmussen.  These are short clips that will be pitched to several networks in an effort to spark interest in a possible show.

The mayor thinks this would be a good avenue to teach tolerance in small towns across the country.  But there are some who worry it would bring more attention to the town than it needs - and the wrong type of attention.  As expected, the news brought a mixed reaction from folks.

US jets chase stolen Canada plane

Two US fighter jets chased a stolen, single-engine Cessna plane across several states before it eventually landed on a highway in the midwestern state of Missouri, US military officials said.

A Pentagon spokesman told AFP that F-16 fighter jets from NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command) responded to a violation of US airspace, intercepting the plane that had been reported stolen from an airport in Ontario, Canada.

“They intercepted the small Cessna at approximately 4:43 (pm) Eastern time” (2043 GMT), the Pentagon official said, adding that the pilot flew the aircraft “erratically” and failed to respond to efforts from the fighter jets to establish contact.

An Antarctic ice shelf vanished

According to scientists. One Antarctic ice shelf has disappeared, this means the glaciers are melting faster than anyone predicted due to climate change.

They said the Wordie Ice Shelf, which had been disintegrating since the 1960s, is gone and the northern part of the Larsen Ice Shelf no longer exists. More than 3,200 square miles (8,300 square km) have broken off from the Larsen shelf since 1986.

Climate change is to blame, according to the report from the U.S. Geological Survey and the British Antarctic Survey, available at pubs.usgs.gov/imap/2600/B.
